FIBA 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament in Shawinigan, 2017
On May 19, 2017, CVR sent 16 of its bravest Spartans to an International Basketball tournament in Shawinigan. The tournament drew in some of the most talented basketball players from Eastern Canada resulting in a fierce competition. Our Spartans held their ground and were able to compete with teams of the highest caliber. Out of 4 teams, CVR students were involved in 2 Semi-Finals and 1 Quarter Finals in a tournament with well over 100 teams.
As a group, our Spartans evoked a sense of comradery and respect that was unparalleled. They were humble in both victory and defeat, savouring every moment and learning from this exceptional experience. As such, the organizer of the tournament Patrick Richard has already extended an invitation for CVR to be represented at the tournament again next year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the individuals and organizations that allowed this weekend to be such a great success. First off, I would like to thank our parent volunteers as well as Helen Maniadakis and Michelle Frost for giving up their weekends to assist us in every way possible. Next I would like to thank our CVR principal Madame Barrette, the Student Caisse Desjardins and Ms. Beaulieu for their vital contribution to this wonderful event. Lastly, I would like to thank all the parents and CVR staff that selflessly support these kinds of events. You are the unspoken heroes with your generosity and willingness to participate in the planning, fundraising and organization of this tournament.
I would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Kennedy. He is always ready and willing to tackle these huge undertakings without so much as a complaint. Your presence both as a coach and as an individual was truly appreciated by everyone involved in the tournament.
To the Spartans that participated in this tournament, it was an absolute honour to be a part of this experience with you all. I was completely captivated by your poise and the grace with which you carried yourselves that weekend. You have truly embodied what it is to be a Spartan while making your own mark on this tournament. I look forward to working with you all next year.
